25 Lessons at 25

There is a saying that many people stop living at twenty five but die at seventy five. Twenty five is a quarter of a century and it is a good turning point to reflect on one’s life. I want to share some of what I have learned about myself and life in general so far and hopefully some people out there can connect with them. If we are all more open with our experiences, we can grow together to live a meaningful life. I have learned that:

  1. When all else fails, love ALWAYS. A random person online told me this some years back and I will never forget it.
  2. “What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.” This is my favorite quote and has gotten me through a lot of my experiences.
  3. People will disappoint you even your close friends and family. That is just the reality of life.
  4. Heartbreak is a bitch but the strength to heal? Wow! Now that is amazing growth.
  5. Death is also a bitch and losing a loved one is never easy. Although the pain will not completely go away, it does get better.
  6. Keeping my circle small and getting to know those people on a deeper level has enriched my life immensely.
  7. Starting a business will make you feel like a failure and the sacrifices are intense but the rewards are unbeatable.
  8. Dear parents, please give your children positive affirmations. If my mother did not do this for me growing up I do not think I would be as confident as I am now. I probably would seek validation in all the wrong places instead of in myself.
  9. Giving is rewarding.
  10. I am probably too hard on myself.
  11. Patience is a virtue. This is a constant test for me. Patience is also my name which makes this a funny lesson.
  12. I have had some incredible teachers in this life that I am so grateful for
  13. Reading is rewarding
  14. I have met some amazing people from all over the world
  15. Traveling is like peeling layers of yourself and finding new skin you never knew you had.
  16. I love the United States of America and the opportunities here
  17. I have learned that people will always give unsolicited advice especially now when it comes to finding a life partner but I should just shut up and nod.
  18. I understand that spiritual growth is never ending
  19. Nigeria — Home will always be home no matter what
  20. Sadly I have learned to better mentally compartmentalize the human suffering around the world.
  21. Making to-do lists continues to save my life
  22. What would I be without prayer and meditation?
  23. It is okay for people you have never met to have an impact on your life.
  24. Health is wealth
  25. I love myself immensely, intensely, unashamedly.
